Globe Arts Studio Celebrates Wellbeing Partnership with Kirklees College

Share:

Kirklees College Creative Industries and Globe Arts Studio in Slaithwaite are to join forces as part of Kirklees College’s Wellbeing Wednesday.

In order to promote positive mental health and wellbeing, Zoe Gale, Creative Industries Alumni and Globe Arts Tutor and Jackie Harrowsmith, Creative Director of Globe Arts and part-time lecturer at Kirklees College are to bring Art for Wellbeing Classes to the local community in partnership with Kirklees College.

The art classes are open to teaching staff, adult learners and vulnerable young people, as well as the wider Kirklees community.

Engaging with the arts is a fantastic way to create a feeling of community and make a powerful contribution to our mental health.

Wellbeing Wednesday Classes will incorporate fused glass, printmaking, textiles, drawing, painting and ceramics in 10-week blocks.

Fused glass is an extraordinary medium where you transform raw glass into stunning pieces of art and useful functional pieces.

Printmaking is an exciting medium with many different techniques to learn and develop. The class is run by Globe Arts founder Jackie Harrowsmith, who has a wealth of experience and knowledge to share.

Jackie Harrowsmith, Creative Director of Globe Arts said:

“I am really proud of the partnership Globe Arts has built with the Kirklees College Creative Industries Department over the years.

Kirklees College has helped us to make our classes more accessible and bring in people from the wider community, which has meant we have been able to positively affect the mental health of more people.

I would like to thank Steve Plumstead, Creative Industries Curriculum Area Manager at Kirklees College for all of his hard work on this project, without whom, it wouldn’t have been possible to create this fantastic partnership and bring Art for Wellbeing to the community!”
